Teens + Transit = Win-Win

Read the top six reasons you should ride transit!  You'll always have a ride: With Metrobus, Metrorail and ART, you always have a ride. No more begging mom to take you everywhere, no more bumming a ride off friends... (Click here for more!)

Here are the top six reasons YOU should be riding transit. Do you agree? Do you use ART busses?

  • It’s less work for your parents: They can have some time for themselves. You can listen to what you want on the bus! (With your earbuds).
  • You always have a ride: With Metrobus, Metrorail and ART, you always have a ride. No more begging mom to take you everywhere. You don’t have to rely on bumming a ride off friends.
  • Your parents can stop worrying so much: Wouldn’t they rather have you ride a vehicle driven by an adult, professional driver ... than one driven by a friend who just got her license?
  • It’s easy: Arlington’s iRide program gives great information and tools on the many transit options that are available. The iRide “Riding 101” webpage gives you four easy steps on how to catch a ride. We even have mobile tools you can use on smart phones, including schedules and real-time updates.
  • It’s cheap: As part of the iRide program, middle and high school students with a school ID pay only $0.75 when riding the ART bus (the regular fare is $1.50). ART also offers special green iRide tokens for students with a school ID. Tokens are available in bags of 20 tokens for $15 and are available at the Commuter Store and Arlington Recreation Centers.
  • It’s a good habit: The earlier people start using transit, the more likely they are to use it throughout their lives. Riding ART or Metrobus to school not only provides students with some independence, but also provides an environmentally friendly way to get around.

iRide brochures are available at all Arlington County middle and high schools, recreation centers and at the Commuter Store. The brochure includes a transit map of Arlington that shows all of the ART bus, Metrobus and Metrorail routes through the County. Here's a listing of which buses go to which schools.

Visit www.commuterpage.com/iride for more information about the iRide program and tips to start using transit.
